National Qualification puts Basildon on the County Map

Essex Auto Group congratulates Phoenix Swimming Club on the second weekend of the premier swimming event in Essex, The Essex County Championships, saw more success for Basildon based Phoenix Swimming Club.

Following on from the Clubs medal haul in January, 8 swimmers competed at this second weekend at the new pool in Braintree.

Yet again 13 year old Kathryn Pearse kept with form taking Golds in the 100 Individual Medley and the 100 Backstroke. This has positioned her at the top of the 13 years Top Girl leader Board.

12 year old Harvey Brown wasn’t to be outdone by his older teammate and produced a superb swim with a blistering finish in the 200m Backstroke to take the Gold Medal and County Champion title for the first time in this event.

Youngest member of the Phoenix Team 9 year old Brooke Frost continued her promising form with Silver in the 200 backstroke and Bronze’s in the 200 freestyle and 100 Individual Medley.

Lewis Cooper surprised only himself in making the final of the 11years 100m Individual Medley and a marvellous swim saw him take 4th place in his first County final.

13 year old Maisie West followed up her sprint success with a 9th in the 100 Backstroke but more importantly gained her Regional Championship qualification time for the 3rd year in succession.

Despite carrying long term injury Rachael Moore completed a superb 100 backstroke in a personal best time just missing out on her Regional Time. Further swimmers at the event were Jemima Walker competing in her first championships and finishing with a 5 second personal best in the 200 Free and Sam Mullender finishing 9th in the 16 years 200 free.

Head Coach, Jon Pearse, commented on the weekends results:
“This is a superb start to the championships the swimmers have really put the town back on the County Swimming Map. Their great swims and results have lifted Phoenix to 9th place in the County at the half way stage ahead of some very large established Clubs.”
