SURC 1st Team – Update

Essex Auto Group would like to congratulate Southend Rugby Club on their recent success.

Most of you will be aware that the 1st team is having a good year in National League 2 (South). After a
not-too-promising September, at the time of writing the side has now won 11 of the 15 games.

SURC are in 5th position, comfortably clear of 6th placed Canterbury.

This is down to a few key people intimately involved with the squad. DoR Ben Green, in only his 2nd season in the job, and Head Coach Andy Holloway (in his 1st season) both have done wonders in developing a loyal, committed and very capable squad. They have been hugely supported in their endeavors by Jamie Connors (forwards coach, also in his 1st season), Chris Green (Captain, again in his 1st season) and by Nick Fleming.

The team has often produced sublime rugby, particularly since the front row problem was sorted in November. Unfortunately, playing well for more than 50 minutes in a game has proved somewhat elusive so there’s been some frustration in most quarters. The comforting aspect of this is that the capability is there, and now need to improve the application in order to advance.

A couple of interesting statistics:
1. Andrew Frost is currently at the top of League 2 (S) points scorers
2. SURC have the lowest number of (red/yellow) cards issued in the entire National Leagues (comprising 47 clubs)
