Help For Heroes - Gibbo's Fund Raising History

Andy “Gibbo” Gibbs joined the Royal Navy in January 1987 and has served on various classes of ships in this time seeing service in the former Yugoslavia, the Gulf regions, both inside the straits of Hormouz and on counter piracy operations.

He has recently completed a tour of duty on HMS St Albans prior to taking up his later post working in the NATO maritime headquarters in Northwood.

Andy first became involved with the Help for Heroes Charity after a friends brother was affected by the conflict in Afghanistan, this was back in 2008 and Andy deicided he wanted to do something to support this great cause and planned his first event, which entailed walking from Glasgow to Edinburgh and as a result raising over £13,000.

This was followed by a walk around the route of the circle line in 2009 raising another £7,500.
The big event of 2011 was the walk from Wembley to Cardiff carrying the match ball for the Wales Vs England match on 26th March which he then presented to the referee just before kick off, this event raised over £14,000.

In addition to these main events Andy works tirelessly raising money for this charity which is very close to his heart, including an event he has organized in St Albans the home town of his last ship raising £5,000.
Gibbo as he is most commonly known, has 20 collecting tins in pubs in London which he visits ensuring that the money collected in them is handed over to the Help for heroes charity on a regular basis.

You can often find Gibbo collecting in the pubs around waterloo before major fixtures at Twickenham, and in his usual haunts of Baker Street and Marylebone for England fixtures.

To date he has raised over £70,000 for this very worthy charity and is constantly looking for his new challenges and ways to boost his fund raising efforts.
