Lords Taverners Competition comes to Essex
For the first time Essex Cricket hosted a regional event for The Macquarie National Table Cricket Competition 2011 at the Essex Auto Group Graham Gooch cricket centre.
The competition is run by the Lords Taverners. The event is designed to feed into the national finals held at Lords Cricket ground, London.
Table Cricket is a game devised for people with disabilities. Its playing surface is a table tennis table or something similar in size and shape if a table tennis table is not available. The game follows similar rules to Cricket and is devised to allow anyone, no matter what impairments, to be able to play.
Taking part in the competition were to Essex based schools, Beacon Hill and Brookfield House. The 2 schools took part in a best of 3 game competition. Brookfield took early advantage with a solid win in the first game but Beacon hill came back well in the 2nd and pushed them all the way but were unable to stop them winning to take a 2-0 lead and book their place in the final at Lords.
Presentations were made at the end of the game by David East, Chief executive of Essex Cricket as well as players Michael Comber, Maurice Chambers and Tom Westley.
Both teams seemed to thoroughly enjoy the event and it is hoped that next year more schools are able to enter teams into the competition.
Essex Auto Group are proud to see that there Essex Cricket Centre is being used not just for cricket but for other important aspects of the community.
