The New Fiat 124 Spider was revealed at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto
Show and revives the historic name by bringing classic styling and
performance to a new generation. Paying homage to the original 124
Spider nearly 50 years after it was launched, the New 124 Spider has
been designed to deliver the ultimate roadster experience with
excitement, technology and safety combined with iconic Italian styling.
The British motoring press have clearly been impressed!
The new rear-wheel drive model will come with a 1.4-litre MultiAir Turbo four-cylinder engine, producing 140 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque, with a lightweight, quick-shifting six-speed manual gearbox specially engineered to handle high levels of torque. Its suspension employs a double wishbone at the front and a multilink arrangement at the rear for greater stability under braking and when cornering.
Steering is light and responsive thanks to an electric power assist (dual pinion) system. The "active" bonnet, stability control and traction control all come as standard. With a high-strength, lightweight chassis and balanced weight distribution too, a dynamic driving experience is guaranteed, while noise vibration and harshness (NVH) enhancements and insulation treatments also help to deliver a refined, quiet ride.
This all-new roadster is packed with safety, security and technology features, including adaptive front LED headlights, a reversing camera, a 7- inch touchscreen with digital radio multimedia control, rain-sensitive wipers, Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports, heated seats, Keyless Enter'n Go, a 3D navigation system, and voice-controlled phone calls, music and navigation. A Bose premium sound system with nine speakers, including twin headrest speakers and a subwoofer, will also be available as an option for superb sound quality even with the roof folded down.
For the ultimate roadster experience that is sure to turn a few heads, the New Fiat 124 Spider's soft convertible top is easy to retract with spring-assisted opening and closing – eliminating the need for a power assist system – and requires little force as a result. Even the seats have been designed with the roof in mind, allowing quick and unrestricted roof operation from the driver's seat, plus seatbelt mountings positioned to minimise wind noise while driving with the top down. With the roof and side windows down, the aerodynamics around the rearward-mounted windscreen frame have been deliberately made to direct the wind above the heads of the driver and passengers towards the rear of the car.
The New 124 Spider has reimagined design features from the original 1966 Spider – one of Fiat's most beautiful cars ever. The low, aerodynamic, sporty curves of a classic roadster have been combined with an aggressive-looking hexagonal upper grille and grille pattern, "power domes" on the bonnet and sharp horizontal lights at the rear. The interior has been crafted for comfort and quality with premium soft-touch materials, plus the ergonomics have been carefully considered to enhance the ride and driving experience.
The Fiat 124 Spider will be available in two different trim levels: 124 Spider and Lusso. Each model is available in 8 exterior paint colours, including Rosso Passione (Solid Red), Bianco Gelato (Solid White), Nero Vesuvio (Black Metallic), Grigio Argento (Gray Metallic), Grigio Moda (Dark Gray Metallic) Bronzo Magnetico (Bronze Metallic), Azzurro Italia (Azure Metallic) and tri-coat Bianco Ghiaccio.
