The New Fiat 500X

The exciting new Fiat 500X compact crossover SUV is available to test drive and order now from Essex Fiat in Southend!

Continuing the ever-stylish Fiat 500 design with its distinctive rounded bodywork and lights, the larger 500X has a long, low bonnet and rooflines. The bigger front-end grille design makes more of a visual impact, as does the chrome used around the edge of the bumper, plus it also has tinted windows, roof rails and a boot-mounted spoiler.

There are both two-wheel and four-wheel-drive versions. The front-wheel drive City Look is made for the urban jungle, while the Off-Road Look has been toughened up to take on more rugged terrain.

The Fiat 500X has earned rave reviews in the press too!

  • MotoringResearch.com – “Fiat pumps up the 500 to create the 500X and may have created the best small crossover in the process.”
  • HonestJohn.co.uk – “The 500X looks like the best-rounded Fiat we’ve seen launched in many years – and a serious contender in its class thanks to all-round competence and ability.”
  • Autocar – “The already stylish and practical is improved by a fine petrol engine.”
  • What Car? – “The best version of this stylish SUV, with plenty of space and a fabulous interior”

It's more, more, more as the 500X seems to have extra everything. The interior has a more premium feel to it in terms of materials and extra storage (including a 350-litre boot), while there is also the opportunity for more personalisation with seven different finishes from which to choose, such as fabric, leather and colours. There's a variety of 5 trim levels, 12 different finishes for the paintwork and eight variations of alloys to fit on the 16-, 17- and 18-inch wheels.

Technology has been boosted by Uconnect Live colour touchscreen infotainment systems with Bluetooth, USB, smartphone and app connectivity which can be controlled from the steering wheel and using voice commands. The Beats sound system will be an optional extra.

Under the bonnet of the front-wheel-drive 500X drivers can choose between a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine making 82kW with a five-speed manual gearbox and a 1.4-litre turbo four-cylinder generating 104kW with six-speed manual or automatic gearboxes.

The four-wheel-drive models have either a 1.4-litre turbo engine producing 127kW or a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine churning out 137kW, both with a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Front-wheel-drive diesel power units include a 1.3-litre turbo unit making 71kW with a five-speed manual gearbox and a 90kW 1.6-litre turbo with a six-speed manual gearbox. The 2.0-litre turbo producing 105kW can be had for front-wheel drive with a six-speed manual gearbox or for four-wheel drive with a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

No doubt this Fiat crossover will appeal to safety-conscious motorists with the elevated driving position, good visibility, and front and side airbags. There's plenty of driver-assist technology to tackle any tricky manoeuvres of all kinds, with electronic stability control, lane-departure warnings, blind-spot assist, a reverse-view camera and systems to control the brakes if a crash is sensed as likely.

There is also the Drive Mood Selector which adjusts the responsiveness of the engine, brakes, steering and transmission to suit the conditions you want. Modes include Auto for efficiency, Sport, and All Weather. Traction mode replaces All Weather in hardier models to improve rear-wheel drive, while Traction Plus increases front-wheel drive if the 500X is two-wheel drive.
