Come to our exclusive preview of the powerful All-New Ford Focus RS at our Dunton FordStore, 21st – 23rd August!
Following hot on the wheels of recent reveals for the New Mustang, the Focus ST, and the All-New Ford GT, Ford unveiled the All-New Focus RS at a special event in Cologne, Germany on 3rd February 2015.
The preview took place at Ford's European HQ, where the RS badge made its first appearance in 1967, and the new model has since made its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show before being driven in public for the first time by Ken Block at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The third-generation Focus RS will be the thirtieth RS model to be manufactured by Ford and the first to go on sale all around the world. It is one of over a dozen new Ford Performance vehicles scheduled to be launched between now and 2020.
It's reported that the new RS will go on sale in Spring 2016 and prices will start from under £30,000.
Raj Nair, group vice president, Global Product Development, Ford Motor Company, said: “The all-new Focus RS is a very serious machine with high-performance technology and innovative engineering that sets a new benchmark for driving exhilaration. The RS line has a proud history of technical breakthroughs that have gone on to benefit all Ford customers, and the new Focus RS is no exception."
While full specifications about performance will have to wait, it has been confirmed that the Focus RS will have a six-speed manual gearbox as standard and a 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine with a low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger, large compressor and intercooler to churn out about 345bhp and up to 347lb ft of torque.
It will be easier than ever to apply that horsepower thanks to the new all-wheel-drive system, a firmer suspension, and Dynamic Torque Vectoring that switches torque to the outer wheel when cornering. This is said to virtually eliminate understeer and can “provide neutral and adjustable limit handling and the ability to achieve controlled oversteer drifts at the track".
As well as delivering precision handling and cornering, the new technologies provide selectable Drive Modes – including an industry-first Drift Mode that allows controlled oversteer drifts – and Launch Control.
The five-door model will be available in Nitrous Blue, Stealth Grey, Absolute Black or Frozen White, while the interior sees Recaro sports seats, the SYNC 2 connectivity system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and alloy pedals. Customers will also have a choice between standard or lightweight forged 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels and either Michelin Pilot Super Sport 235/35 RD or Pilot Sport Cup 2 semi-slick tyres.
