The Award-winning All-New Kia Sorento Makes a Perfect Getaway

The All-New Kia Sorento went on sale on 1st April 2015 from just £28,795 to some very excited customers after a build up which has included motor shows in Seoul, Paris, Detroit, and Geneva, a prime-time Super Bowl commercial starring Pierce Brosnan, a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, and success at two major design awards.

Kia's third-generation flagship model starts the second phase of transforming the brand towards further refinement and quality. As well as new technologies, the new Sorento will offer seven seats, intelligent all-wheel drive as standard, more space and comfort, and an EU6-compliant 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine providing reduced emissions and improved fuel economy.

Kia Motors' Super Bowl XLIX commercial – entitled "Perfect Getaway" – saw the all-new Kia Sorento driven to the edge by former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan as he imagines his next thrilling movie role. Good looking, exciting and armed with handy technology, the Kia Sorento could be a Bond star in its own right!

Technologies that are new to the Sorento include Adaptive Smart Cruise Control to maintain a gap to the vehicle ahead, Speed Limit Information, Around View Monitoring, Cross Traffic Alert to prevent the owner from backing out of a parking space into the path of an approaching vehicle, a Smart Park Assist System which now includes reverse and parallel departure functions, Lane Departure Warning with Blind Spot Detection and self-dimming Adaptive Front Lighting.

At the prestigious iF Design Award ceremony in February 2015, the Sorento won in the hotly-contested 'Automobiles / Vehicles / Bikes' category – the seventh Kia model to secure an iF Design Award after the Venga, Sportage, Optima, Picanto, pro_cee'd and Soul. The annual iF Design Award has become one of the world's most important prizes for excellence in design since it began in 1953. In 2015, companies from 53 nations took part, submitting over 4,500 designs for consideration.

Peter Schreyer, President and Chief Design Officer of the Kia Motors Corporation said: "I am very proud of this award for the Kia Sorento because it is recognition of the great advance in quality we have succeeded in achieving in this model. The Kia Sorento unites the classic poise of an SUV with a premium look and feel that is particularly tangible in the cabin. It offers the very highest design quality and excellent value for money. This is largely the achievement of our international design teams – which is also why I am so delighted with this award."

At the 60th anniversary of the highly-respected Red Dot Awards international design competition in March 2015, the Korean manufacturer celebrated another trophy with a win for the Kia Soul EV, while the Sorento garnered an ‘Honourable Mention’ distinction.

Peter Schreyer said: “Our international design teams have every reason to be proud of the honours we have won at the 2015 Red Dot Awards, which show just how successful they have been in mastering the different design challenges of these two models. The third generation of the Kia Sorento has a subtly altered character and has made a great leap forward in quality. The new model combines a classic SUV spirit with a premium look that is particularly noticeable in the interior."

The roomy interior is made up of wide, horizontal lines with luxurious details and is capable of holding up to 1,732 litres of cargo in the luggage area. The third-generation Sorento is longer, lower and broader than the previous model thanks to an all-new platform, while an extended wheelbase creates greater room in all three rows of seats. Minutely detailed body and chassis engineering work has created an SUV which is more engaging to drive and more refined.
