Upgraded Mazda 3 2012
Design
The expressive and dynamic design of the Mazda3 has further evolved starting with a revised, more aggressive front end design. A new front bumper which boldly protrudes forward to improve aerodynamics as well as enhancing the car’s sporty looks. The 5-point family face grille has been refined with a smaller grille opening giving a more taut impression. In addition, new round front fog lights lend a sportier, lower stance to the car and new 16” and 17” alloy wheels provide a lighter, more dynamic side profile.
The interior presents a sophisticated and refined environment with a premium black finish to the centre front console and a silver satin polished finish on key dials including audio and climate control. Sharp white graphics are found in the Multi-Information Display (MID) which improve legibility, even in day light. The sporty twin metre dials now feature continuously-lit white graphics with a dynamic grey back-light. All models also feature a new seat trim design with a three-dimensional fabric which adds a higher quality feel.
Driving Dynamics
Building on Mazda3’s solid reputation for superior driving dynamics the Upgrade model has further evolved to deliver an even greater ride quality. Particular focus has been placed improving handling stability through greater body rigidity. The front and rear dampers have been optimised as have the settings on the Electric Hydraulic Power Assisted Steering (EHPAS) to balance ride comfort and handling stability. Measures to improve aerodynamic performance include a new front bumper which streamlines airflow; more rigid tyre deflectors and an increased floor uncover area to channel airflow efficiently under the body. This results in the upgraded model posting a drag co-efficient of just Cd 0.29 among the best-in-class.
Safety
Upgraded Mazda3 carries over the advanced active safety technologies which include Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control System (TCS) and Emergency Stop Signal system (ESS). Passive safety features include a Supplementary Restraint System (SRS), active front head restraints and for the body structure, Mazda’s Advanced Impact Distribution and Absorption System (MAIDAS).
Environmental Improvements
Following improvements to its aerodynamic design, the use of lower viscosity engine oil and the addition of higher 5th and 6th gear ratios, Upgraded Mazda3 realises improvements to both fuel economy and C02 emissions.
All Upgraded Mazda3 models with the exception of the 1.6 TS Automatic and 2.3-litre MPS are equipped with the Gear Shift Indicator which supports the driver in achieving smoother, more fuel efficient driving.
