The all-new Mazda2 is the next generation of the Japanese manufacturer's supermini and is the fourth Mazda to use their 'KODO – Soul of Motion' design theme and full SKYACTIV range of ultra-efficient lightweight technology.
The Mazda2 is available to order now with prices from £11,995 on-the-road (OTR). This beautiful model has already won 2014-2015 Car of the Year in Japan and made the shortlist for the 2015 World Car of the Year Awards.
A super-efficient and super-stylish supermini, the all-new Mazda2 also features an amazing amount of cutting-edge technology, such as an enhanced human-machine interface (HMI), the i-stop idle-stop system, an Active Driving Display, and a variety of advanced safety systems.
The exterior of the Mazda2 looks very similar to the Hazumi concept unveiled in Geneva in March 2014, with a more vertical windscreen and longer-looking cabin. The car itself is marginally longer than its previous generation by 80mm. The Mazda2's strong, muscular lines and chiselled good looks feature that striking, 'winged' front grille and optional four-lamp LED lights. It comes with either 15- and 16-inch alloys or 15-inch steel wheels, as well as 10 body paint colours, including Dynamic Blue and Smoky Rose.
The interior of the Mazda2 shares many cues and comforts seen in its bigger brother, the Mazda3. It's more comfortable and spacious than ever with more legroom, a wider centre console between the two front seats, more ergonomic positions for the driver, better visibility, higher seatbacks, a more premium quality look and feel, a larger boot, and a choice of up to five upholstery and interior options.
The Mazda2 is available with an exceptional array of technology, especially for a supermini. With options to choose from like the Active Driving Display, a seven-inch display on the dashboard with console, touchscreen, or voice command controls its possible to see information and make adjustments with little eye and limb movement, so there are minimal distractions while driving.
With the optional MZD Connect, Mazda's in-car connectivity system, you're always online. It works with both iPhone and Android smartphones, includes navigation software, supports iPods, MP3s, CDs, radio, SMS and readout functions (including Twitter and Facebook audio feeds), and comes with Mazda's own vehicle apps (e.g. Eco-display, maintenance reminders and warnings) to track the car's performance.
Further driver aids mean drivers could take advantage of Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), rear parking sensors, an autonomous emergency braking system (Smart City Brake Support), a lane departure warning system, high beam control, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, brake assist (EBA), Dynamic Stability Control, traction control, and a new navigation system (with improved accuracy, more search features, three years of free updates, and more language support).
Despite its lightweight design, the Mazda2 is stronger and stiffer than ever, better designed to withstand any impacts, and has front, side and curtain airbags to help protect drivers and their passengers.
Mazda's SKYACTIV technology balances responsive, quality performance with ultra-efficient fuel economy. There's a choice between the SKYACTIV-MT five- and six-speed manual transmissions or the SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic gearbox with the 89bhp petrol engine.
The Mazda2 is powered by two different engines: a 1.5 SKYACTIV-G petrol engine available with 74bhp, 89bhp or 113bhp and a 1.5 SKYACTIV-D diesel.
The turbocharged Euro 6 diesel engine generates around 77kW/105ps/103bhp and maximum torque of 220Nm, but only burns through 3.4 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres with CO2 emissions of 89g/km. This makes it one of the cleanest cars in its class.
The 74bhp 1.5 SKYACTIV-G is said to have fuel economy figures of 60.1mpg and CO2 emissions of 100g/km.
The 89bhp 1.5 SKYACTIV-G has been quoted as having fuel economy figures of 62.7mpg and CO2 emissions of 105g/km with the five-speed manual transmission, and 58.8mpg and 112g/km with the six-speed automatic gearbox.
While the 113bhp 1.5 SKYACTIV-G has an official fuel economy of 57.6mpg and CO2 emissions of 115g/km.
To celebrate the arrival of the all-new Mazda2 in the UK, Mazda have created an exclusive Sports Launch Edition. Powered by a 1.5-litre 90ps SKYACTIV G petrol engine, it will also feature an integrated navigation system, 16-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, dusk-sensing lights, rain-sensing front wipers, rear parking sensors and free-of-charge Metallic/Mica/Pearlescent paint – all for just £14,995 OTR.
