Essex Auto Group Sponsor Motions11
Motions 11 is an event which is raising money for 5 different deserving charities. During May 2010, the Motions 11 team will all be cycling frantically for nine days in order to cover the 900 miles from John O'Groats to Land's End.
A disparate bunch of riders if ever there was, the Motions 11 team each bring with them their own special quality. Rarely do such a ragtag bunch come together in an attempt to raise money for such good causes. From banker to builder, cycling novice to keen amateur and from twenties to fifties, the Motions 11 team are combining forces to do this so that you don't have to.
While the team are undertaking this massive commitment to give them bragging rights in hostelries for years to come, the drive to make it happen, to make the long painful days easier to cope with is the fact that they are doing for the benefit of these five great causes.
As official vehicle supplier to ‘Motions 11’, essex autogroup have donated a Transit Van for the team to carry their vital equipment and supplies from one end of the country to the other. Follow the ride and our van daily on essexautogroup.com
The Charities
The five chosen charities are:
The Route
Day 1 Friday 7th May
John O'Groats to Inverness
120 Miles
The daunting ride had finally arrived. 900 miles across the UK in the elements. At the end of the first day the team were knackered but buzzing with a sense of achievement. This feeling was soon overcome as the realisation of the task ahead hit home...
Day 2 Saturday 8th May
Inverness to Crianlarich
120 Miles
They set off at 9 on what is probably the only second consecutive day of sunshine there has ever been north of Glasgow! The run across Rannoch Moor was spectacular... barely a car on the road.
Day 3 Sunday 9th May
Crianlarich to New Lanark
90 Miles
As day three began the team had a bit of good news, only 90 miles to go today. The route took them to Glasgow through a part where Johnathan (the local lad) had grown up. As they drove through the area he pointed out and shared his memories of his childhood. But he was soon to give the team a memory of there own as he hit a kerb on a roundabout and crashed sideways using his bare knee as a buffer to protect his bike. That's going to be swore in the morning...
Day 4 Monday 10th May
New Lanark to Kendal
120 Miles
Another day, another bike ride. the team have another 120 mile trip to the next location. At least after today they will have gone half way...
Day 5 Tuesday 11th May
Kendal to Northwich
80 Miles
Today is the shortest they have had to ride since the start. The bikes have been given some TLC and by the looks of the team they could do with some too. The weather has been good to the team so far and today was no different. Only four days to go...
Day 6 Wednesday 12th May
Northwich to Worcester
100 Miles
As the team get closer to the finish the weather decided that it had been kind enough to them. The freezing wind blew straight into there faces along with hailstones. The only thing keeping them going is the thought of another gruelling hill...
Day 7 Thursday 13th May
Worcester to Burnham on Sea
80 Miles
Only 2 days to go. The team have completed over 630 miles. The End is in sight... well alot closer than it was. Everyone is looking forward to a well earned rest.
Day 8 Friday 14th May
Burnham on Sea to Launceston
100 Miles
The penultimate day! The hardest day! With the knowledge that they were coming to an end, they were able to fight through. This day definitely tested there courage and endurance as they cycled over hill after hill after hill. One of the team got a puncture, which slowed down his progress but he was soon back on his way up another hill.
Day 9 Saturday 15th May
Launceston to Lands End
80 Miles
Congratulations to the team and there achievements!
Day 10 Party Day!
