Volvo estates have improved their exterior look over the years and that is highlighted in the V60’s curvaceous, streamlined design. A more pronounced wedge front end and ‘double wave’ side profile make for a sportier feel, as does the tapering roof line.
Technology and performance
The engine range on offer with the Volvo V60 includes three diesel and four petrol options, each containing efficiency enhancing Stop/Start technology and six-speed manual or automatic powershift gearbox. The petrol version starts at a 1.6-litre direct injection turbo and goes up to a 3.0-litre turbo-charged six-cylinder, with the diesel ranging from a 1.6-litre to a high-performance 2.4-litre five-cylinder turbo. A new hybrid version offers the best of an efficient diesel and electric power engine. By simply flicking a switch an electric battery takes over allowing the driver up to 31 miles without emissions and offering 148.7 combined MPG, which makes for lower fuel costs and tax exemptions.
The new V60 comes with an excellent ‘infotainment’ system with all in-car information presented on a 5” or 7” colour screen in the instrument panel. The screen is positioned high so as not to compromise driver and passenger safety and can be controlled via the steering wheel. Optional integrated navigation with voice control and Bluetooth connectivity are also available.
Safety
Safety features are of the highest order, as you would expect from Volvo and as a result the car has been awarded a 5-star EuroNCAP safety rating. Electronic Stability Control comes as standard on all trim levels, as does a driver set Speed Limitation Assistance and driver and passenger airbags. A range of extras is available on higher trim models too, including rear parking assist cameras, a blind- spot information system and lane departure warning.
