The perfect blend of technology and craftsmanship, performance and efficiency, innovative design and precision engineering – the all-new Ford Mondeo is designed to inspire.
With its flowing lines, low roofline and bold detailing, this is a sleeker, more predatory and more aggressive-looking Mondeo altogether. Striking – definitely. Sophisticated – undoubtedly. The interior is equally uncompromising, a fusion of cutting-edge design and technology, with meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Ford SYNC 2 lets you control your music and calls on your mobile via an 8" colour touchscreen or by using simple voice commands. The system even reads your incoming texts aloud, adjusts the climate control, and operates the navigation system (where fitted).
Active Park Assist technology does more than steer you into parallel parking spots: Park Out Assist (POA) helps you pull out of them too. The Perpendicular Parking (PPA) system also helps you into perpendicular spaces, sensing if your car can fit, then reversing you in. And if there are any obstructions, Side Parking Aid (SPA) warns you.
Further sophisticated technology includes Ford Multi-Contour Seats with Active Motion massage function, adaptive LED headlights, Auto-Start-Stop, Lane Keeping Alert, a power tailgate, an optional panoramic sunroof (for the estate), a heated steering wheel and a first-in-class power-adjustable, memory-equipped steering column.
In an all-new Mondeo, the two rear outer seats can be fitted with a unique safety feature: Inflatable Rear Seat Belts. In the event of an impact, the belts inflate and spread the crash forces over five times more area of the body than conventional seat belts. By reducing pressure on the chest and better controling head and neck movement, this innovative technology is designed to reduce the likelihood of injury.
An optional safety package comes with with active cruise control and autonomous braking that uses radar and cameras to detect vehicles and pedestrians at up to 50mph.
The Mondeo will come as a five-door hatchback and an estate version. With a stiffer chassis, integral link rear suspension and improved steering, handling will be better than ever. Among its range of efficient power units is Ford's award-winning 1-litre EcoBoost engine, offering best-in-class fuel economy and CO2 emissions of 119g/km.
It's the best of all worlds – a quieter, more spacious car with fewer emissions and enhanced performance.
Other engine options include a new 160PS 1.5-litre EcoBoost delivering 134g/km CO2 and 5.8l/100km fuel (48.7 mpg) efficiency, a 2.0-litre EcoBoost, and 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre TDCi with 150PS or 180PS. The new 210 PS 2.0-litre TDCi, 1.5-litre TDCi, 1.0-litre EcoBoost and all-wheel-drive powertrains are due to arrive in 2015.
Ford is also making a petrol hybrid electric four-door saloon – which combines a 2-litre petrol engine with a lithium-ion battery for further savings on costs and emissions – and the Mondeo Vignale. The Vignale is an even more luxurious specification, featuring more metal trim on the exterior, bespoke alloy wheels, and interior materials such as quilted leather and aluminium detailing.
