Advanced New Ford Kuga SUV with SYNC 3 Revealed!

At February's Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona, Ford revealed the super smart New Kuga, which will offer drivers a more technologically advanced redesign of one of Europe’s favourite sport utility vehicles featuring their latest and cleverest connectivity system yet – SYNC 3.

The sporty-looking, redesigned exterior features a new trapezoidal grille in keeping with the stylish range of new Fords, new headlights incorporating LED daytime running lights, and 2 extra colours (Guard Grey and the bold Copper Pulse). Updated taillights also feature, plus new 17- 18- and 19-inch alloy wheel designs will be available. The Hands-Free Liftgate, operated by waving a foot beneath the back bumper, is still a hugely popular option for current Kuga drivers packing away all their gear and shopping (chosen by more than 1-in-3 Kuga customers in Europe last year), and the rear of the vehicle can retain its looks and practicality with a power-operated retractable tow bar that automatically stores itself out of sight below the bumper when it's not needed.

The well-crafted interior offers improved comfort with a heated leather steering wheel in addition to simpler steering wheel and air-conditioning controls with fewer and more easily distinguishable buttons and switches, making it easier to recognise and use. All automatic New Kugas will come with paddle-shift controls to manually select gears while keeping their hands on the wheel and not getting distracted from the road.

The New Kuga will offer a whole host of technologies to assist the driver and keep passengers safe, comfortable and entertained.

The SYNC 3 connectivity system builds on that launched in the Mondeo last year with a redesigned 8‑inch touchscreen, faster performance, better buttons, and pinch and swipe touchscreen gestures as used by smartphones. The system lets drivers control audio, navigation, and climate functions plus connected smartphones with simpler, more conversational voice commands.

Ford analysed over 22,000 comments as well as data from research clinics and surveys to ensure SYNC 3 is the most driver friendly system to date. Just pushing a button and saying out loud “I really, really need a coffee,” “I need petrol,” and “I want a parking space,” drivers can locate nearby coffee shops, petrol stations, car parks, stations, airports, hotels, and more.

iPhone owners can turn on Apple CarPlay so that drivers to make calls, play music, send and receive messages, get directions based on traffic reports, and more while still concentrating on the road. Similarly, Android users can turn on Android Auto. Software can be updated via Wi-Fi. SYNC AppLink enables voice-activation of smartphone apps from the driver’s seat.

Ford’s Perpendicular Parking technology adds to Active Park Assist to help drivers park hands-free in spaces alongside other cars while the Kuga will see an enhanced version of the Active City Stop collision avoidance system, and an Adaptive Front Lighting System to tailor the headlight beams for better visibility in low light levels.

Under the bonnet, a new 120 PS 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine will be available. Ford has targeted a fuel efficiency improvement for the new engine of about 5%, while producing the same power. Also available will be a 2.0-litre TDCi engine with 150 PS in front-wheel drive and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (iAWD) versions, a 180 PS iAWD version, a 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine in 120 PS or 150 PS form, and a 182 PS iAWD version.
