Downsizing is all the rage at the moment, but the dimensions of these Fiestas are the only thing small about them. These new warm-hatch editions are the first to get a higher-output version of the multiple award-winning 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost engine, which has been cranked up to 138bhp thanks to variable cam timing, higher turbo boost and direct injection.
This has made these new Fiesta Zetec special editions the most powerful 1.0-litre cars in the world!
The extra power means they get from 0-62mph in 9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 125mph, while still only averaging 63mpg and with just 104g/km of CO 2 emissions.
Developing 140PS from a 1.0-litre engine means that they deliver more power per litre than the engines of the Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari 458 Speciale, Lamborghini Aventador and the Porsche 911 Turbo. The engine's turbocharger rotates at up to 248,000rpm, which is reportedly nearly double the rate of a 2014 Formula 1 car's turbocharger. And yet the engine's 3-cylinder block is still little enough to fit into an overhead luggage locker on a plane (even on Ryanair and easyJet).
These Zetec S Red and Black Editions have also had some minor chassis changes to further liven up the the ride, while sports suspension, retuned steering, 17-inch black wheels, and adjusted gearing in the five-speed manual gearbox have been used to make these specials handle even better than ever.
The Zetec S Red Edition will be priced at £15,995 OTR and the Zetec S Black Edition at £16,495 OTR
