We've known for some time that the Ford Mustang will be coming to Britain for the first time as a right-hand drive muscle car, but the wait is nearly over! Essex Ford's new FordStore at Dunton in Basildon, will be hosting an exclusive preview event from Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th July to see one of the most hotly-anticipated cars ahead of its UK launches.
Since it first rolled off the production line back in 1964 the original pony car has become a much-loved classic, but the star of such movies as Bullitt and Gone In 60 Seconds has only ever appeared on our shores as a left-hand drive import often seen and heard at motor shows.
As part of Ford's accelerated rate of launches and facelifts for Britain's favourite vehicles – such as the Fiesta, the Focus, and the Transit – the new Mustang will make a huge impact over the coming year. Even when Ford of Europe opened up exclusive pre-orders for 500 Mustangs during 2014's UEFA Champions League final, the first batch is alleged to have sold out within 30 seconds.
The anticipation only seems to be growing each month as the American manufacturer's marketing machine drip feeds us exciting information. Ford Performance vehicles, such as the Mustang, the GT and Focus RS, were shown off at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last month by racing them up the famous Hill Climb and they have been receiving rave reviews from journalists and fans alike.
For the true thunderous, throaty growl of the Mustang, a 5-litre V8 capable of producing 435 US horsepower and reaching 62mph in 4.8 seconds will be available for those who want the authentic American experience when they put their foot down.
Other customers may be more tempted by the 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbo version of Ford's International Engine of the Year award-winning EcoBoost technology, which will achieves 62mph in 5.8 seconds thanks to 310 US horsepower with 434 Nm of torque. It also has surprising fuel efficiency and emissions as low as 179 g/km CO2. They are two terrific power units, as those who have experienced the performance of a 1-litre EcoBoost can testify.
The Mustang is already available to order from £28,995 for the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine and from £32,995 for the 5-litre V8 at Essex Ford at Dunton.
The luxury of choice doesn't end there either. As well as the coupé, those with more faith in the British weather can get an even better look at people's heads turning by picking the convertible. Mustangs sold in Europe will also come with performance packages as standard, meaning bigger four-piston front brake callipers with the 2.3-litre EcoBoost and six-piston callipers for the V8 engine.
Other features that will put a smile on the face of fans include the fully independent rear suspension with monotube dampers, plus retuned springs and bushings, and performance will also be enhanced by modifications to the ABS, AdvanceTrac Electronic Stability Programme and power steering systems. Inside the cabin there's a 390-watt, 12-speaker Shaker Pro Audio System and Ford's SYNC 2 infotainment system with Voice Control and optional 8" colour touchscreen.
It's clear that the Mustang will be one of the hottest launches of 2015, so why not get up close and personal with one of the most popular dream cars of all time?
